Mesiwala, Ali H., M.D.

Ali H. Mesiwala, MD, is the director of neurological surgery for the Chaparral Medical Group, Inc. In addition to treating general neurosurgical and spine problems, he specializes in the treatment of complex brain tumors, skull base lesions, pituitary tumors, and vascular abnormalities. He performs minimally invasive procedures, spine instrumentation and reconstruction, and disk replacements. He has done research in include the development of minimally invasive technologies for the brain, skull base, and spine. He has patented several medical devices, including a non-invasive intracranial pressure monitor and high-intensity ultrasound phaser.

Dr. Mesiwala is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Medical Association, and Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He has written several book chapters for major neurosurgical textbooks, numerous articles for peer-reviewed publications. A faculty member and instructor for national and international courses on skull base and vascular neurosurgery.

Dr. Mesiwala received his bachelor’s degree in biomedical and electrical engineering at the Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco. He completed an internship in general surgery and residency in neurological surgery at the University of Washington. Dr. Mesiwala was a registrar in the National Health Service in neurosurgery at Atkinson Morley’s Hospital in London, U.K. He has completed a skull base fellowship at the International Neurosciences Institute in Hanover, Germany, a cerebrovascular/skull base fellowship at the University of Washington, and a minimally invasive fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.
